Amazon's $100B Bet On AI

​

Amazon is making a massive bet on AI by investing over $100 billion in AI projects across their ecosystem in 2025.

​

In an excerpt from Andy Jassy's 2025 letter to shareholders, he claims that AI will reinvent every customer experience, including:

​

• Shopping

• Coding

• Healthcare

​

Andy knows that like any investment, the $100B Amazon plans to spend in 2025 will take a while to yield a positive return.

​

But he cites Amazon's strategic focus on AI as being a central component of a long-term competitive advantage.

​

One of these investments includes Nova Sonic, Amazon's newest AI voice model.

​

It took me a while to understand what Nova Sonic actually is, so here's the layman's definition:

​

Traditional AI voice models run 3 separate algorithms in sequence.

​

This can cause context, tone, style, and pace to get lost in translation.

​

Nova Sonic runs all 3 models at the same time, allowing it to understand and respond more naturally to human speech.

​

Nova Sonic is only available to customers of Amazon Bedrock, their enterprise application building platform.

​

I have a feeling Alexa will be getting much smarter in the coming months.

​
