Wholesale 101

I’ve got some juicy stories in store for you guys this week.

• Wholesale 101 podcast episode
• Amazon spinning off their India division
• How to get around gatekeepers (and close huge deals)
• A (failed) Amazon boycott

Let’s dive in.

Wholesale 101

I pulled a podcast episode out of the archives to help shed some light on a few key questions:

• How does the wholesale model work?
• What are the margins?
• What’s the best way to start?
• What’s the best way to scale?

This one is geared towards beginners but veterans will get some value from the section on scaling.

Check it out here:

Amazon India Heading For A Spinoff

Amazon is in early talks with Indian investment banks to spin off its India division.

The reason?

In India, only domestic entities are allowed to hold inventory.

Currently, Amazon’s India business is solely a marketplace connecting buyers and sellers.

If Amazon hopes to compete with India's largest eCommerce retailer FlipKart, they’ll need to restructure operations to begin holding inventory.

This would lower Amazon’s costs and allow for quicker shipping speeds, among a host of other benefits for Amazon.

How To Beat Gatekeepers

Gatekeepers can be brutal.

They’re the only thing standing between you and a decision maker at a brand/distributor.

One of our Wholesale Network community members Dakohta found a genius way to bypass a gatekeeper and get in direct contact with the CEO.

He stumbled across an old resumé from the CEO on Google which contained his direct email.

He fired off an email to the CEO and landed a meeting.

The result?

An exclusivity opportunity with a brand worth over $100k/mo.

This is exactly why you don’t take no for an answer.

Real winners figure out a way around the gatekeeper to get the job done.

Nice work, Dakohta.

The Failed Amazon Boycott

A recent viral social media trend called for consumers to boycott big box retailers, particularly Amazon.

The movement is being orchestrated by John Schwarz, founder of The People’s Union USA.

His reasoning:

Amazon crushes small business, exploits their workers, and rakes in billions in the process.

My take:

Efforts like these are largely useless.

Amazon is already ingrained into the lives of enough people to where a boycott will only be a waste of time and effort.

The article confirmed that these boycotts did nothing to affect the bottom lines of the companies being boycotted.

Nice try, I guess.
